Now there comes to light some level of dissent among the LWM editors as to the best path to follow. I’m fairly well done dealing with it. My feeling was made more concrete by the story on Slashdot today that linked to a LinuxWorld article written by a fellow editor, Maria Winslow. The article was written on TCO studies and was posted as being related to Ballmer’s latest clueless, idiotic rant about Windows and Linux TCO. Nevermind that he always manages to tell half the story.

Microsoft has such great credibility when it comes to talking about TCO that they got slapped for their TCO advertisements in the UK. I guess this means that if I buy a McLaren F1 car and you buy Chevy Malibu that you’ll have a lower TCO on your first tank of gas. Really? You don’t say. I would’ve never thought that myself. Anyone who truly believes that Microsoft Windows has the same or lower TCO than Linux is caught somewhere between attempting to justify a bad purchase and completely delusional. Prove me wrong.

Wow. I digress.

Back to the point, our readers seem to realize that there was (and is) a significant amount of distance between the editors of the print magazine (us) and the editors of the linuxworld.com web site and that Maureen doesn’t work for LinuxWorld Magazine. As such, I saw no backlash amongst the Slashdot crowd over the linking of Maria’s story from the Slashdot story. Kudos to our readers for realizing that.

I don’t know if anything more will come out of this past week’s turmoil. The things that have been done already have been steps in the right direction. There is always more that could be done.
